This little seaside town is the oldest seashore resort in the US dating back to before 1620. The area is home to several award-winning wineries and October means harvest time. For a really unique experience visit September through October to marvel at the monarch butterflies that stop here for a few weeks during their annual migration.

Lancaster, PA

This area is known as Dutch Country and for good reason. It harkens back to a simpler time when autumn held high importance in the life of a town. Enjoy buggy rides, harvest festivals, apple orchards, and the simple fun of corn mazes. The foliage in the area is gorgeous and the bed and breakfasts and historic lodgings are just as beautiful.

Walla Walla, WA

Fall in wine country has a special kind of magic. The summer bounty becomes autumn harvest full of grape picking and crushing. Between vineyards take in the beautiful colors of the surrounding hillsides. At the vineyards, enjoy the tastes of previous years harvests and watch the vintners honing their craft with this year’s grapes.

Door County, WI

Winters in this region can be brutal, but fall is majestic. Head here early in autumn before the snow starts falling to take in all the foliage in its full beauty. White Gull Inn is a gorgeous little inn built in 1896 that knows how to treat guests to the best of a slow-paced life. Rent bikes to explore the nearby Peninsula State Park or bring a good book and curl up by the gas log fireplace if you’re lucky enough to book Henriette’s Cottage. Don’t miss the apple orchards and wineries in the area either!

Fall is really the best time to visit the historic city of Savannah, GA – the humidity has dropped so strolling the streets is much more enjoyable. With Halloween right around the corner and a full roster of ghost stories that have spanned the ages this is the perfect place for a haunted walking tour. This is also the time of year for all the best festivals – the Savannah Film Festival, Picnic in the Park, and the Savannah Food and Wine Festival.

Montreal, Canada

Montreal is a little taste of Europe in North America and a great spot for a quick getaway. Autumn is the perfect time to visit for festivals and events including the Garden of Lights at the Montreal Botanical Gardens. Wander through the Art Deco building housing the Atwater market and marvel at the architecture while taking in the season’s bounty. And of course, can you really visit Canada this time of year and not take in a hockey game?! It can get chilly so bring layers or a coat to bundle up in.

Summer has been fun, but we’re ready for some beautiful foliage, apple desserts, and comfy sweaters.
